Hi everyone, we've been receiving a lot of e-mails regarding our latest cookbook, The Vegan Scoop, but we've also been receiving a lot of inquiries about a rumored second book by Wheeler del Torro.
To confirm the rumors: YES! We are in the process of writing another vegan cookbook, to be released Fall 2010.
The working title is Bring On The Night: An Invitation To Underground Dinner Parties, Picnics, Culinary Rescues, and Other Epicurean Adventures.
We're so excited to be writing again and testing out new dairy-free recipes! Stay updating on further developments of our book by checking our blog regularly!
Hi everyone! We just stopped by to let everyone know about this great event occurring in Boston on January 13th! After a stirring (and noisy) debut last April, Opium returns to Boston with a talent-rich lineup to heat up icy New England. The fundraising event doubles as the launch of Opium9: The Mania Issue. See readers Elisa Gabbert (Thanks for Sending the Engine) representing Open Letters, Steven Brykman (Four Stories), Janaka Stucky (Handsome) and a Quick Fiction reader-rep!
Plus, brilliant judges Billy Giraldi (senior fiction editor of AGNI), comedian Lamont Price and a female musician TBA that'll knock your (and our) socks clean off! Hosted by Opium founding editor Todd Zuniga.
Boston Literary Deathmatch Doors at 7, show at 8:05 (sharp), afterparty: 9:30 at Enormous Room. Enormous Room, 569 Massachusetts Avenue Cost: $10 includes a free copy of Opium9, cover price of $12
Opium’s Literary Death Match, co-created by Opium’s founding editor, Todd Zuniga (pictured), Elizabeth Koch & Dennis DiClaudio, marries the literary and performative aspects of Def Poetry Jam, rapier-witted quips of American Idol’s judging (without any meanness), and the ridiculousness and hilarity of Double Dare.
Each episode of this competitive, humor-centric reading series features a thrilling mix of four famous and emerging authors (all representing a literary publication, press or concern--either online or in print) who perform their most electric writing (in eight minutes or less) before a lively audience and a panel of three all-star judges. After each pair of readings, the judges—focused on literary merit, performance and intangibles—take turns spouting hilarious, off-the-wall commentary about each story, then select their favorite to advance to the finals.

THE VEGAN SCOOP IS HERE ...
CHECK OUT OUR BRAND NEW BOOK, THE VEGAN SCOOP TO BE RELEASED JUNE 2009!
"The Vegan Scoop brings the pleasures of the ice cream parlor into the home with 150 recipes for delicious frozen treats that are so rich and creamy, they’re better than the “real” thing. Developed by vegan hipster Wheeler del Toro of Wheeler’s Frozen Desserts, these “faux” creams feature soy and nut milk blends and 100 percent vegan-certified ingredients, making them suitable for both vegans and those with lactose intolerance and other dairy aversions.
With a few simple churns of the ice cream maker, you can bring Wheeler’s delicious and innovative desserts into your own home. Chapters are devoted to innovative flavor “inspirations,” and cover everything from Caribbean & Island Flavors to Healthy Flavors to Aphrodisiac Flavors. Two final chapters will cover toppings, mix-ins, and ice cream vessels and desserts.
Wheeler del Torro, (Boston) is the founder and owner of Wheeler’s Frozen Desserts www.icecreamproject.com, a microcreamery based in Boston that produces vegan ice cream using soy, coconut, rice, and almond milks. His ice cream has been featured in Boston Magazine and on the popular website Daily Candy. He opened his first store this year in Boston, and plans on opening a sister shop to the Boston location in L.A. soon."
Support the Blind Judo Foundation!
The Ice Cream Project has been steadily working on a documentary about the Blind Judo Foundation and their Olympic accomplishments. The fascinating documentary will be released in the near future! For now, here is some further information about the Blind Judo Foundation and their mission.
The Blind Judo Foundation continues to introduce and create champions of blind and visually impaired individuals through the sport of Judo. As a nonprofit organization we constantly seek funding and sponsors to support those brave individuals willing to step on the Judo mat. Unfortunately Paralympians do not get the same financial support or media coverage as Olympians yet they meet the same requirements, standards and compete at the same venues.
